I finally got the chance to finish Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena)
a few days ago after having the whole series and the movie on my laptop for months. It was not a disappointment. In fact, it's probably one of the best I've seen so far.
I've only seen the series once so I probably missed half of the symbols and metaphors used in there. And of those that I noticed, I managed to understand a small number. In any case, my thoughts on Utena
revolve around the movie more since I watched that after the series, three times (second time with director commentary).
I've not had a lot of practice analysing visual medium nor have I really been taught. Reading is easier since I did do literature and my English teacher was somewhat successful in drilling those literary techniques into my head. Somehow, noticing that it's raining in a scene in a book is easier than noticing the same thing in a movie, lol.( More Rambling )
I sound so optimistic I'm sickening myself, lol. If you read all that, kudos to you.
Lastly, I may have a winner for this anime season! The melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi (or just Suzumiya Haruhi) is very cracktastic and I look forward to seeing more of it, lol. If it keeps this level of hilarity and good animation up then it may very well turn out to be my forvourite anime this season.Oh, and if anyone doesn't have Utena already and is interested in watching it, I'm uploading it at anime_uploads.
